Doc Watson - 1991 - Don't Let Your Deal Go Down
Doc Watson - 1991 - Don't Let Your Deal Go Down. Kirk Sutphin on fiddle and Mike Seeger on banjo.
You may have heard the Flatt & Scruggs bluegrass version of this song.
Doc is singing and playing it here like Charlie Poole did it... he called it the "Don't let your deal go down blues" and recorded it July 27, 1925.

Odd. He’s playing badly. Never heard that before.
Was lucky to see Doc and Merle and some friends at Beanblossom, Indiana in '75 . Summertime, beautiful music, sitting on haybails in the sun, a perfect day.
Take her home,boys
Yeee boi
What great playing!

As an English man who adores American folk. To hear the master playing and singing singing English folk music is... No I'm complete. I absolutely adore that sir.
I wish I still had a roll-yer-own cassette I made with all the instrumentals off the early records. I called it "Hot Doc Watson."

This is an excerpt of an instructional VHS tape that I came across a few lifetimes ago. Doc could make the lesson sound as if it was a planned recording. Jack’s not too shabby either. When asked to break their prospective leads down, it seemed difficult for both to play the tunes slowly. It’s worth it every time I break out the tape player. As Doc said, “you gotta practice like the devil”.
Nice!!

As I walked over london bridge One misty morning early I heard some fairy young maiden say Lord spare me the life of Georgie Go settle me up my milk white steed And bridle him so gayly Then ride away to the king's high court And plead for the life of Georgie" So she rode all day and she rode all night Til she was running weary Then calming back her long yowl hair She plead for the life of georgie Then georgie roared up and he plead for himself He says I never murdered any But he stole sixteen of the king's best steeds And sold them in romany Then the oldest law urged the bar Says "George I'm sorry for you, But your own confession condemns you to die, May the lord have mercy upon you If I was over on yonder hill, Where kisses I've had a plenty With my sword and my pistol by my side I'd fight for the life of Georgie As Georgie was walking through the streets He bid farewell to many Then he bid farewell to his own true love Which grieved him worse then any Georgie was hanged with a golden cord Just like you've never seen many For he was a member of the royal race And loved by a virtuous lady
ขอบคุณมากครับ Thanks a lot
I've played since 1966 I'm not blind wish I could play that good love doc
Thanks for all the Doc uploads ! Amazing singer and guitarisr, although im not a big fan of bluegrass
He does something uncanny somewhere around a minute and a half - O, Mercy !!
I think Mr. Lawrence may have had a hand in that!
Awesome
Just imagine yourself playing and singing like that later on. No way.
does that dread look thinner than usual? sorta does to me
Yeeehaaa! That's some mighty fine pickin' 🎸
I was born in 1981 and my grandmother took me to all kinds of music festivals. I have a photo of me sitting on Doc's lap before he played. I have always been a big fan of Doc's music, it opened up a whole world of music to me. Told him the story about the picture and he said he still remembered holding me in the picture. Doc always seemed like family to alot of people who enjoyed his music. Miss the old man, but I hear him about every day at some point.
lovely
💙
Just be curious what in these cosmos could have been going through the three viewers’ minds who gave this a thumbs down.
This is the real deal folks!
The thing I like about bluegrass is it is easy to play and sounds great.
Awww. For me, I feel my heart spirit flutter around inside me......It’s just so so uplifting as I lie here recovering from a serious operation!
Wow!!! ❤️

Very interesting to see a language I am not familiar with .. and seemingly they are loving our Doc.
Seems like some Thai musician lifted this melody for one of their songs and many fans are blaming Doc Watson for plagiarizing a Thai legend. They are being very savage in the comments, lol. But the top comment is about a letter from the father of the musician stating that there is video evidence of Doc Watson in 1965 playing the melody- obviously it's older than even Doc, although they are still crediting Doc as their source of the melody.
When the Master compliments the student you know then you got it right
A great picker by anybody's standards.
I miss a man I've never meet! Rip
